Yvette Monell

Yvette Monell is a creative thinker, photographer, and publishing veteran with more than 30 years of experience building brands, developing concepts, and marketing businesses across multiple industries.

Her publishing career began in 1994 as a founding partner of Pittsburgh Style Magazine, which she purchased outright in 1995. Life changes moved her to Naples, Florida, where she introduced digital photography to N — The Magazine of Naples, leading their creative team in graphic design and web marketing. In 2002, she launched the equestrian publication, Gallop Magazine.

Her passion for training and riding horses eventually brought her to Saint Augustine as a Stable Manager & Trainer. She'd never heard of the city — and the moment she arrived; she went looking for the local's magazine to learn about her new hometown. There wasn't one. So, she left the stable, leased an apartment on King Street, and launched Old City Life Magazine in 2006.

Later she opened 233 West King Gallery & Studio — the magazine's home base and a vibrant creative space featuring monthly exhibitions of emerging photographers and established local and regional artists. She sold OCL in 2013.

Two years after the finalization of a non-compete agreement she reemerged to create St Augustine Magazine (SAM). The community who knew her branded her "Old City Yvette" — and that became the catalyst for the name change to Old City Magazine.

After a health-related pause, Yvette relaunched her Events St Augustine bi-weekly email blast and is now bringing back the publication — reborn as Old City Magazine — in a digital-first format with print issues for the readers who will hold their copies close, while a younger generation discovers what it feels like to sit back with an enjoyable read.

Saint Augustine finally has its magazine back.

Things People Say

What the Community Says

“Dear Yvette, On behalf of the Board of Directors, our membership and the local community of art enthusiasts, I want to express our sincere gratitude to you for featuring Jean Wagner Troemel on the February 2010 cover of Old City Life Magazine. The Patron’s Benefit and month-long exhibit have been a resounding success, raising thousands of dollars for our youth art programs and art access initiatives for children with special needs. Jean has been on ‘Cloud 9,’ thanks in large part to you! For the love of art and from the bottom of our hearts, we thank you!”

— Elyse Brady

“It is a very refreshing approach to covering life in our great county and it is produced with extreme taste and artistry. “Not many communities are lucky enough to have a local magazine dedicated to informing and celebrating the events, activities and functions that go on year to year. Very, very few are fortunate enough to have a local magazine of the quality of Old City Life. But for me, there is nothing more fun than to see Old City Life owner and publisher Yvette Monell come breeze in to an event and start snapping pictures of everyone having a great time. Thanks Yvette for what you do for our community.”

— Joseph L. Boles Jr.

Former Mayor of Saint Augustine, Florida
