Whispers of the Earth
Contemporary realist Koo Hon opens her 2026 exhibition at St Johns County's Rotunda Gallery.
The StoryThere is a quietness to Koo Hon's work that draws you in before you realize it has. Still lifes that feel inhabited. Flowers caught at the precise moment of fullness. Faces that hold something unspoken — an emotion just past the point of naming.
Hon is a contemporary realist painter of Malaysian heritage, a member of the American Impressionist Society, Oil Painters of America, and the National Oil & Acrylic Painters Society — and her work shows it. The range is impressive: animals, florals, still life, figurative work. But the thread running through all of it is something more personal. As Hon puts it: "My work reflects the beauty and interconnectedness of the earth and nature — encompassing all living things, including animals and humans. It also draws inspiration from my childhood memories and the sense of home that has always been rooted in the natural world."
Her 2026 exhibition, Whispers of the Earth, opened at the Rotunda Gallery in the St Johns County Administration Building to an evening co-hosted by the St Johns Cultural Council and the Saint Augustine Art Association. The work on the walls carried that rare quality of feeling both discovered and deeply familiar — and the room responded accordingly.
